Kinesiologists
The staff working at Viomax is kinesiologists who have obtained
or are in the process of completing a bachelor's degree in
the field.
What is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is the science of human movements.
The training that future kinesiologists receive while going
through their university studies include aspects such as:
Anatomy and the Physiology of Exercise, the Biomechanics of
Movement, Sports Psychology, Motor Development, among others.
Kinesiologists may take further courses which are specific
to Adapted Physical Activity and Cinesiology.
Kinesiologists in training also have the opportunity to take
part in internships during their studies which allows them
to choose their areas of interest. Viomax helps in this process
by recruiting numerous trainees from a variety of universities
including the University of Montreal, UQAM, the University
of Sherbrooke, as well as Concordia University. These trainees
come to us looking to experience working in an environment
where physical activities are adapted to people living with
a physical disability, for the first time.
Viomax offers training for the staff which is specific to
the different types of disabilities and the limitations faced
by the clientele. We also educated staff about the types of
adaptations that can be made to a range of physical activities.
This training notably pertains to different pathologies that
can be encountered as well as limitations that may result;
medications used by the clients; safe transfer techniques
and the best approach to use for each case.
The Viomax team also receives expertise and valuable advice
from professionals at its main partner the Lucie Bruneau Rehabilitation
Centre such as physical educators, doctors, physiotherapists,
social workers, special needs educators, psychologists, nurses
as well as professionals from the various CLSCs and other
rehabilitation centers in the Greater Montreal Area.
The tasks that the kinesiologists at VIOMAX undertake are
varied and interesting including intervention, supervision,
training, reception, giving advice pertaining to the activities
being done and participating in the organization's development.
Viomax also recruits volunteers and aids who offer their
services in order to help the kinesiologists to be able to
do their work effectively and efficiently. Their tasks include
adjusting the machines, help in the changing rooms, socializing
with members, etc.
